The Chairman, Plateau Youth Council, PYC, Panan Dapar, has said the Council developed a Youth Charter of Demand for Peace and Inclusive Governance to compel politicians seeking to govern Plateau State to commit to youth inclusion.
Dapar stated this in his address at the Plateau Youth Charter of Demand for Peace and Inclusive Governance Validation Workshop, held in Jos, the State Capital.
The workshop was organised by Plateau Youth Council, PYC, in collaboration with Youth Initiative Against Violence and Human Rights Abuse, YIAVHA, sponsored by SPRING.
According to him, the objective of the workshop is to review and validate the developed Plateau Youth Charter of Demand for Peace and Inclusive Governance, that promotes meaningful youth participation, in peacebuilding, inclusive governance, democratic participation, and economic empowerment in Plateau State.
“This is one of its kind; it has never been done since the creation of the state, and we got inspired to organize this program, which of course is to validate the charter of demand from the youths of Plateau State to politicians and political leaders, and those who care to rule Plateau State or Nigeria, as the case may be,” Dapar said.
“This is occasioned by the very obvious neglect of young people in times of genuine engagement in political activities and governance, because we realize the leadership of the Youth Council here on the Plateau realize that Nigerian politicians, are fond of using the strength, sapping the energy and the ingenuity of the young people in winning elections, but not generous enough to also acknowledge that same ingenuity the young people bring on the table in terms of governance, and so that should not be what we should continue to condone as young people,” he said.
“And so, this leadership we said there should be a document that will guide all the aspiring leaders on the plateau and in Nigeria, as the case may be,” he added.
