The Vice Chancellor Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), Prof. Shehu Musa has hailed Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for establishing Kano Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND), designed to ensure adequate funding of the health sector.
Prof. Musa observed that the agency under the state Ministry of Health is the first of its kind in the entire northern region.
Prof. Musa who stated this during a familiarization tour to the agency with a view to create synergy between the University and the KHETFUND agency, explained that, “with the coming of KHETFund, most of our health problems would be adequately addressed since the University is still under the state and the agency is also controlled by the state.
“Certainly, the university can assess some of the services rendered by the agency, especially, in the area of education and health facility within the university for accelerated progress of the university. I am optimistic that this collaboration would eventually yield positive results.”
Responding, the Executive Secretary of the KHETFUND, Dr. Nura Idris expressed appreciation for his visit, which he described as timely, and restated his readiness to support the university where necessary for the overall development of the state and the betterment of the good people of Kano state.
Dr. Nura further stated that the agency is the first of its kind in the northern region established by the present administration, “mainly to complement the health sector to excel.”
He explained that the sources of the agency’s funding includes five per cent of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state and one per cent of the Statutory Allocation of each of the 44 Local Government areyas of the state.
He added that, “from the inception of this agency to date, a lot has been achieved in the area of infrastructural developments and other health related issues,” while commending Ganduje for his foresight and zeal to improve the health condition of the good people of Kano state.
