Following the recent deteriorating security situation across various states in the country, some members of the House of Representatives comprising of members of the peoples Democratic party PDP on Tuesday accused the federal government of condoning and protecting hoodlums killing fellow citizens in different part of the country.
The group also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency find a lasting solution to the insecurity challenge in Mangu-Bokkos communities in Plateau State where about26 lives have been lost within 2 weeks.
Speaking on behalf of the group Rep. Solomon Bulus representing Mangu Bokkos fderal constituency of pleatue states made the call during a press briefing with journalist in Abuja.
According to Bulus, President Buhari should show sincerity and commitment, match words with actions to secure all Nigerians wherever they are, adding that as commander in Chief, he should provide security Agencies with modern equipment, resources and the political will to make them succeed.
“Government seems is not only complacent but to be condoning these hoodlums and probably protecting them by dealing with the issues with kid gloves. Because, no single prosecution of those arrested over the years, no categorical statement and policy to fight this menace to finish.
“Even when killer herdsmen were designated and referred to as most dangerous terrorist gang in the world, our Government, didn’t classify them as such, one can easily conclude that genocide has been declared on my people as indeed Plateau State.
“There is no sign that Government is willing to unabated to perform its constitutional duty of protecting the lives and properties of the people or arrest and prosecute perpetrators of this hideous, barbaric, senseless and inhuman act, that appears to have no end in view, “he said.
Speaking further on the matter, the group further called on the international community to assist in arresting the insecurity situation in the country.
“We call on the international save our people from been extinct going by the numbers killed every day, which in alarming, is a cause for concern.
“Our people need your show of love at this point, to provide them with food, water and sanitation as a matter of urgency. The IDPs are joining other IDPs who have been taking refuge in the same location for over a year now. Kindly press on the president of Nigeria to end the genocide and the innocent, armless and defenceless people of my constituency at home in Plateau and outside Plateau State.
“We call on the International Human Right Organisation to evoke the chatter on right to life and instruct the United Nation to come to our aid without further delay.
“It all sarted on the 1st of October, 2019, two citizens of ManguBokkos, Lawrence Duna and Gafdfrey Shikakham, carpenters working with humanitarian NGO in Borno, building homes for displaced persons were abducted and executed in a video because they were Christians and from Plateau State.
” The attack on 8th January, 2020 at Kuthen Village of Kombun District, Plateau State Pwhich claimed 12 armless, innocent and defenceless constituents in cold blood; till today, nothing has come out about those arrested in connection to this killings, the areas remain unprotected.
” Mr Daciya Ropvil, a 200 level student of the University of Maiduguri was abducted on Damaturu-Maiduguri road on his way to school in a similar video with that of the first one, still claiming he was executed because he was a Christian from Plateau
State.
“On Sunday the 26/10/2020 at 8pm, another attack in Kwatas, Mansh, Sabon Barki, Murish Lokunfung, Pil and Mbiri-Isha which claimed 16 Lives, 3 churches burnt, 8 shops looted and about 200 Houses burnt with food stuffs and seedlings worth Hundreds of millions, destroyed without any form of provocation in broad daylight without security intervention.
“Those who escaped from those villages, are presently taking refuge in COCIN Central church and Christ Apostolic church, all in Bokos numbering over 5000 women and children, without food, water and adequate sanitation to cater for such population.
“Many others took place in other parts of the country unabated. The essence of coming together as a Federation was to have leadership at various levels to protect everyone. Hence, the constitutional provision in section 4 CTRN is for the security and welfare of the people. We have drifted from the ideas of the founding fathers,” he added.
