Medical lab technicians dissolve 36 states structures over crisis, say north is not marginalized

The 36 states structures of the Association of Medical Laboratory Technicians and Assistant of Nigeria (AMELTAN), have been dissolved.

The National Working Com­mittee (NWC) of the association gave the dissolution order after its meeting in Abuja.

The association has, therefore, mandated the National Vice Pres­idents (NVPs) in the six geopoliti­cal zones to coordinate, organised and conduct elections in the states within the next three months.

The Spokesman of the group, Comrade Akinwumi Kazeem, dis­closed that at a media briefing in Abuja, weekend.

“In the interim, the NWC has approved the appointment of a three-member caretaker commit­tee for the administration of gov­ernance at all the states levels for continuity,” he said.

The group however, frowned at what it described as an illegal meet­ing held in Kano by some ‘disgrun­tled’ members of the association.

While clarifying the issues raised by ‘disgruntled’ mem­bers which they claimed were their grievances, the AMELTAN Spokesman said: “… we therefore, wish to bring to the foreknowl­edge of the public specifically, the MHWUN, the Medical Laborato­ry Science Council of Nigeria and our teaming membership that, the above meeting was an illegal assembly and the outcome there­of should be regarded as a product of illegality.

“The claim by the group that the leadership of AMELTAN has been dominated by the southern part of the country is not only false but a clear tactics to establish grounds for cheap sympathy.

“The NWC in very strong terms condemn the activities of the or­ganisers and partakers of the Kano forum and call on all team­ing members of the association to disregard and disassociate them­selves with any group operating at variance with the constitution of AMELTAN.”

Speaking, the AMELTAN Presi­dent, Samuel Isijana, explained that in an effort to maintain peace, the NWC has constituted a post elec­tion reconciliation committee to address all grievances arising from the election.

“We have set up committee to look at post election issues. The other group are accusing us that the entire EXCOs are from the South, which is not true. The na­tional Deputy president is from the North, the Secretary General is from the north and national trea­surer is in the north.

“So, saying that all the positions are dominated by the southerners is totally false.

“We want to inform the public that the information that the pur­ported group dished out during their meeting in Kano is not true,” Isijana explained.
