The National Directorate of Employment, NDE, has concluded plans to create 17, 000 jobs in Plateau State through the ongoing Special Public Workforce Programme initiated by the Federal Government.
Chairman Federal Government Public Works Committee in the State, Hon. Rufus Bature, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Jos, the State Capital.
Rufus explained that in each Local Government, 200 graduates of tertiary education would be employed, while 800 others made up of secondary school graduates and illiterates would make up the list to complete one thousand staff per local government.
“In the selection of the participants, there might be few exceptions in respect to supervisors and few skilled labour with respect to specific requests the Minister of Labour and Employment has received from Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals and in some cases private organisations whose work is closely related to public activities.
“In the light of the above, while selecting the 1000 for each of the LGA’s we shall set aside 200 who will be unemployed graduates that might be deployed to the various MDAs as stated above.
“Women are to be allotted 35% of the slot, while people with disability take 10%.”
According to him, “We shall be embarking on a working visit to all the LGAs of Plateau State from Thursday this week to sensitise the general public on this laudable programme that Mr. President has introduced.
“The tour will also enable us to identify and recruit the participants and to also identify the public works project in each LGA. We shall distribute forms that will be filled by identified recruits, these forms are free and should not be sold as indicated on the form.”
Bature said all the state Wards has been allocated at lease 50 slots depending on the number or Wards in the LGA. “It is our belief that at least 3 people from each of the polling units will be beneficiaries of this programme. These forms are to be distributed to every Plateau person so qualified irrespective of Political differences, religious affiliation and any other thing that will not encourage our unity.”
The Chairman assured the people of Plateau State of his best in carrying out the assignment stressing that. “This assignment is demanding, enormorous, tasking and quite challenging. However I want to assure you that we can not afford to fail Mr. President, our Governor or the good people of Plateau State.”
The composition of the state Committee had “the State Coordinator of NDE as Chairman, three representatives of the Traditional rulers from the three Senatorial District of the State, one representative of the state Governor, Market Women Leader, CAN Chairman, JNI Chairman, NURTW Chairman, six representatives from three recognized Youth Organization, two from each Senatorial zone (One Male, One Male), One representative of the Civil Society Organization (CSO), two representative from Institutions/Stakeholders representing special interest to the state,” respectively.
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari this year approved the recruitment of one thousand (1,000) itinerant unskilled workers in all the 774 local government area given a total of 774,000 citizens across the country.
