Following the one month suspension slammed on the embattled Executive Chairman of Kano State Anti-corruption Commission, Bar. muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, by Kano State House of Assembly, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has approved the appointment of Bar. Mahmoud Balarabe, who is currently a Director for Public Prosecution with the state Ministry of Justice, as acting Executive Chairman of the Commission.
According to a Statement by Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Abba Anwar, the appointment is with immediate effect.
The Statement further stated that Governor Ganduje directed the acting Executive Chairman to discharge his duties diligently, according to the laid down procedures establishing the Commission.
The AUTHORITY reports thatat last, Bar. muhuyi seemed to have been caught in a dangerous web as Kano State House of Assembly last Monday, slammed a one month suspension on him to enable him clear himself of allegations of abuse of office.
The AUTHORITY gathered that Magaji was suspended for rejecting an accountant sent to him by the state’s Accountant General.
His immediate suspension came in the heels of a letter of complaint against him sent to the House by the Accountant General’s Office.
According to the letter, the Chairman allegedly appointed a grade level 4 as the Commission’s accountant, contrary to the state Act.
The majority leader of the House, Alhaji Labaran Madari, on Monday, urged the House to hand over the case to the House Committee on Anti-corruption for investigation and action.
However, the House leadership gave the Committee two weeks to complete the investigation and present the report.
The AUTHORITY reports that the Kano anti-corruption Czar has been in the eye of the storm in recent times as several fingers are raised against him over issues bordering on alleged corruption and abuse of office.
He has, however, insisted that his hands are clean, maintaining that corruption is fighting back.
