Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday stormed a police station at Gegu village on Lokoja a�� Abuja road, killing two of the policemen on duty.
Some of the villagers who were eye witnesses told newsmen that the gunmen, numbering about five, came on motorcycles and immediately opened fire on arrival at the police station, killing two of the policemen on duty and fatally injuring one of the suspects in cell.
According to the eye-witnesses, the incident which occurred around 2.15 pm, resulted in disruption of traffic movement in the ever busy Lokoja a�� Abuja road.
The Kogi Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, who confirmed the incident said the gunmen also injured one of the suspects in police detention.
Aya also disclosed that the corpses of the slain policemen were deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, while the injured detainee was taken there for treatment. He said the police have begun investigation into the incident.
