The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Paulinus Nsirim, said given Governor Nyesom Wike’s pedigree and performances so far, there was no doubt the “Wokaholic Governor” was adequately prepared for the governance of the state. South-South Bureau Chief WILLIE ETIM and BLESSING IBUNGE, captures thoughts expressed by the Commissioner.
According to Mr. Nsirim, the governor had enunciated his preparedness to lead his people in the new Vision Blueprint where he articulated what he wanted to achieve in the state given his clear understanding of the needs of the state. His words, “His Excellency is a man who has a grasps of the landscape he wants to govern and his blueprint is encompassing. These are the simple reason why you see the kind of landmark achievement he has recorded which has earned him both national and international recognition as a leader who has come to redefine governance.”
He told The AUTHORITY that the governor has encapsulated the blueprint in areas of priorities which included open accountability, inclusive governance,
security of life and property, administration of justice, education, healthcare delivery, agriculture development, roads drainage and transport infrastructure, housing development, provision of water, energy, security, jobs, wealth creation development empowerment, women development, youths development, sports recreation and tourism, environmental protection, urban and rural development and social welfare services.
He did not mince words by stressing that residents and people of the state are not surprised that Governor Wike has recorded such gargantuan landmark achievements, because the blueprint encapsulated the vision and direction of his administration stressing that he has not deviated, rather, he even improved on what was already on the document where necessary.
On why there is peace and tranquility in the state, Nsirim attributed such to the governor’s deribalised disposition and a man who has this quality of always taking everyone along. “If you monitored what he has done since he took over office, he has taken development to all corners of the state, not minding whether people in the area voted for him or not and whether there are more people from the opposition political parties residing there or not. As far as Governor Wike is concerned, the entire state is his constituency and he tries not to discriminate in the allotment of projects and other developmental programmes”.
Against the backdrop of insinuation that the governor is only concentrating development in Port Harcourt and its environs, the Commissioner said notion are misconceived and totally wrong. He added that for anybody to think in that direction even with the the Unity Road that connects Andoni Local Government to Opobo, Sakpenwa/Bori and the further extension of the road between Bori and Kaa waterside, is most unfortunate.
“There is massive reclamation that is ongoing in the riverine areas; the hospitals that are being built in all the senatorial zones are not in Obio/Apkor and PHALGA LGAs alone. The economic empowerment that His Excellency has been pursuing are not just for Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor people. So, those who are spreading that kind of narrative are just trying to score cheap political points. They don’t understand governance. If there is one man who is spreading development in the 23 local government areas, he is Nyesom Wike,” He said.
Mr Nsirim also commended the governor for restoring peace in the state, adding that the governor has restructure the security architecture of the state which metamorphose into Operation Sting and a grassroots approach to handling security issues by engaging even traditional rulers and other local folks”. He maintained that it was Governor Wike’s determination to ensure there is peace in the state that metamorphosed to the rapid economic development being witnessed in the state with the influx of a large number of investors who are putting up industries, with firm assurances that their investments are secure and that their workers will not suffer any form of harassment and intimidation.
