My aim is to serve my people – Yinka Olatunbosun

Yinka Olatunbosun , a chartered banker, is a management and financial consultant. He is presently aspiring to become the Executive Chairman of Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He spoke to our reporter Daniel Tyokia on his aspirations and other issues.

The nation and the world at large has witnessed a difficult time occasioned by the corona virus pandemic, are you satisfied with the response of the Federal and State Government in tackling this virus?

The truth is that we didn’t expect or envisage this pandemic and as such there was no adequate preparation to tackle it. However, the Federal and State Governments are doing their best but they can still do more in order to ensure that the pandemic is brought under total control.

Your party, the APC is currently facing a crisis especially in Edo State, what is actually the problem and what do you think the leaders of the party should do to avoid a repeat of the Zamfara episode?

In APC, there is no compulsory membership. Every Nigerian has the right to choose the Political party to belong. Governor Obaseki has decided to join the PDP and our party has no problem with that. Our major concern now is producing a credible candidate that will win the forthcoming Governorship election in Edo and move the state to the next level.

The announcement for the conduct of Local Government elections in Osun State has been made and you have signified your intention to contest for the Chairmanship position of Ife East L.G.A. Why are you moving to the Local Government given the fact that you had aspired in 2015 and 2019 to be elected into the State House of Assembly?

The office you occupy as a politician is not as important as the service you intend to render to the people. Political office is all about rendering service to the people irrespective of the office you occupy, what is paramount is the developmental programmes and Agenda that you have for the people. As a Christian politician, my aim is to serve my people and this I am prepared to do in any capacity.

Your party is currently having issues with internal party democracy especially in electing flag bearers for general elections, are you sure there will be a level playing ground for all the aspirants in the forthcoming LGA election?

There is no issue with internal party democracy in APC. If there are grievances, there are mechanism in place for any aggrieved Aspirant to explore.
I have no doubt that our party will give all Aspirants a level playing ground in the forthcoming LGA election in Osun.

Are you confident of victory in the primaries?

I am very confident that I will emerge as the APC’s candidate in Ife East for the forthcoming LGA elections in Osun by the special grace of God.

It is obvious that there are different factions or political blocks that ultimately determine who gets what in party politics. Which political faction or block do you belong to in Osun State APC?

I don’t believe in party fractionalization and I don’t encourage it. I believe in the unity and onenes of all party members. Our strength as a party lies in our unity.

How would you access the performance of the current Governor or Osun State?

There is no doubt about it that our dear Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola has performed excellently well. We are all proud of his achievements thus far.

You have a foundation which you have used to touch lives. What areas have your foundation intervened in the current pandemic in Nigeria and Osun State in particular?

Our foundation is self-sponsored and we did what we could do based on available resources to minimize the sufferings of our people by way of distributing palliatives and giving of cash to support our people.
