Kogi Charges DLGs to Embrace Accountability, Good Governance

The Chairman Kogi State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), prof. Shuaibu Ahmed Ibrahim on Friday said Directors of Local Government would now be held responsible for any fraudulent activities and truancy in local government councils in the state.

The Directors of Local Government in the 21 Local Government Areas in the state in his office on their mode of operation in their new assignment.

“As acting Chairmen of your respective Local government areas, you have to be servant leaders as you take over the reigns of governance to enable you achieve maximum results” he advised.

The Chairman who congratulated them on their
new portfolio as Ag. Chairmen said history is on them to serve their people with utmost sincerity, noting that they have the opportunity to write their
names in gold by instituting good governance in their localities.

He stressed the need for them to be responsible not just for the
welfare of their staff but the entire people in their Local Government Areas, adding that
Accountability should be their guide.

The Chairman who bemoaned the level of absenteeism and truancy by the Local Government staff said that the commission would not tolerate lukewarm attitude of workers to work.

He said that in a situation where staff collect salaries without working for it would not be
condone, adding that any staff found wanting would be dealt with in accordance with the civil
service rules.

He charged the DLGs to always operate from their offices, saying that the commission would not take it lightly with any of them who abandoned his/her duty posts.

Also speaking, the permanent member three (3) of the commission, Hon. Aliyu Suleiman advised them to use their positions to positively impact lives, saying that as ambassadors of the
commission, they should do their jobs with all dense of responsibility.

In his address, the Permanent Secretary Kogi State Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Musa Yahaya Omoyi urged them to be
guided with the civil service and public finance laws in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He congratulated them on their new positions, saying that their positions come with more
responsibilities and required discipline in order to overcome the pressure that comes with the office.

Responding on behalf of the DLG’S, the Chairperson of the DLG’S Forum, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar thanked the chairman of the commission for the fatherly role has been playing in their lives and promised that the they would not let the commission down.
