Unions back sack of TCN General Manager

The in-house workers unions of the Transmission Company of Nigeria have backed the company’s management decision to terminate the appointment of its General Manager, Special Duties, Engr Chris Okonkwo.

The TCN branch of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) and the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) in a resolution after their meeting in Abuja said Okonwko appointment was political and has ended two years ago.

Engr Okonkwo is the President General of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), an umbrella body for senior and management staff working across the power sector.

The unions stated: “We write to applaud the management of TCN for having the political will to carry out the long overdue expiration of the political appointment of Chris Okonkwo in TCN memo ref .TCN/MD/CEO/01/14.00/Vol 1.1/1797/2020 dated 24th April 2020,we make bold to say that the Senior staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, the National Union of Electricity Employees in TCN and the entire work force are Justified. Our earlier outcry points to this fact”.

The resolution was signed by the Council Secretary, TCN NUEE Abuja Branch, Cmrade Monday Johnson; Regional Branch President, SSAEAC TCN Branch Abuja, Comrade Ibrahim Mohammed; Chapter Chairman NUEE TCN CHQ Abuja, Comrade C.O Adah and Branch Chairman SSAEAC TCN CHQ Abuja, Comrade Musa Ambursa.

The unions added: “The entire workers in TCN are happy and elated with this latest development but chides of the management of TCN for harbouring such an arrogant, troublesome and unruly appointee for this long even after the expiration of unwarranted contract. We hereby urged the management to ensure Okonkwo is made to refund all payments of salaries paid to him from the period of expiration of appointment to serve as a deterrent and to prevent future occurrence”.
