The first batch of 70 out of identified 1,000 poor and vulnerable persons, were handed a purse of N5,000 each, being part of the covid-19 relief package by the member representing Enugu North and South Federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Ofor Chukwuegbo.
The beneficiaries were grouped into batches to avoid congestion to maintain physical distancing protocol at the constituency office of the donor, according to Hon.C.I.C. Chiene, who coordinated the exercise.
They were pencils down in a chronological order for the purpose.
Chiene assured that outstanding beneficiaries would be taken in further batches from Monday next week, until everybody was covered.
A total of 1,000 persons would benefit from the N5 million cash released, while another batch of 1,000 would receive consumables in the course of the exercise, from a comprehensive list drawn from the 26 political wards in the two local government areas that make up the federal constituency.
Two weeks ago, Hon. Chukwuegbo had similarly sent financial support to elected officials of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the same area, spanning the wards up to the LGA.
Face masks were also distributed at the event, which was organised strictly in line with globally recommended covid-19 standards.
