The Federal Capital Territory Administration has disclosed that 6,132 persons have been so far tested for coronavirus across the territory with 89 patients returned home negative.

FCT minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello as of 10. 46 pm of March 16, on his twitter handle announced that 11 more COVID-19 patients have been successfully treated and discharged from the isolation and treatment centre in Abuja, bringing the total to 89.

He said the administration was not sleeping on the need to win the battle against COVID-19 in the nation’s capital, even as he urged the residents to follow the laid down rules in order to stay safe.

Bello as of the time of filling this report, stated that, “I am happy to announce the successful treatment and discharge of 11 more patients from the isolation and treatment centre in Abuja. The total number of discharged patients in FCT is now 89. I urge everyone to follow the laid down guidelines in order to stay safe”

However, the Secretary, FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat, Mohammed Kawu said there are enough personal Protection Equipment, PPEs, in all the health facilities

He said the administration made available to all its health facilities both at the primary and secondary levels.

Kawu explained that measures have been put in place to ensure that the PPEs provided are being utilized by the health workers as its priority is the safety and security of all its health workers.

“All health workers are therefore assured that the FCTA will continue to look out for their safety and ensure their security, both of which are key issues in winning the fight against COVID 19”

According to him, the Secretariat had increased its sample collection team to 48 across the FCT as well as opened a sample collection centre at the exhibition centre, opposite radio house. This he said has greatly increased sample collection and coverage area.

Similarly, with the donation of a 54 gene mobile laboratory at ThisDay Dome, which serves as a testing, isolation and treatment centre, FCT now has two testing centres. This has greatly increased testing capacity in the FCT.
