School Resumption: Consult us now, Bayelsa NUT urges Govt

From Aherhoke Okioma, Yenagoa

Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Bayelsa State Wing has advised the Bayelsa State Government not to undermine their union in ensuring better and qualitative education in the state.

The Union through its Secretary, Comrade Johnson Hector, made the position known to journalists at the weekend in Yenagoa.

He said that upon the shutdown of the educational system following the noel coronavirus pandemic, the government has not consulted the NUT on schools reopening date.

The union scribe urged government to as a matter of urgency show proof of their preparedness to reopen schools and plans put in place against covid-19 during resumption.

He noted that even with deficit of number of teachers, schools in the rural areas equally lack sufficient awareness on Covid-19, and decried inadequate health facilities to contain spread of the disease in schools.

“Can the Government provide PPEs such as sanitizers, face marks, running water and soaps for all the government-owned schools in the state?” the NUT scribe asked.
