Tenant threatens to kill landlord over 2 months electricity bill

The FCT Police Command on Thursday arraigned a 35-year-old tenant, Godspower Obaka in a Dutse Grade I Area Court over an alleged threat to kill his landlord.

Obaka, who resides in Sabon-Gari, Bwari, is charged with a joint act of criminal trespass, criminal force, assault and intimidation.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Tunde Arowolo, told the court that the matter was reported by Ezekiel Love of the same address, on Aug. 10 at the Bwari Police Station.
Arowolo said that the complainant sent an electrician to the defendant’s apartment to disconnect his power source because he owed a light bill for two months and refused to pay.

The prosecution said that the defendant, alongside the defendant’s relation, Blessing, presently at large, allegedly trespassed into the complainant’s house and slapped him.

He noted that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 19, 342, 263,265 and 397of the Penal Code.

The Presiding Officer, Mr Hassan Aliyu, in his ruling admitted the suspect on bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and must also submit a printed copy of his or her BVN from the bank.
The Judge then adjourned the case until Aug.27 for hearing.

He disclosed that the father tied the victim, Jibrin Aliyu because he is a patient of Down Syndrome.
The father admitted to having tied him with a rope because he had taken him to native doctors for medication and has sold some of his properties but all in vain.

“Our detectives attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Birnin Kebbi, swiftly rushed to the scene, rescued the victim and took him to Sir Yahyah Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi for medical attention.
The PPRO added that the father subjected his son to such inhumane treatment in order to prevent him from roaming about in the town, stoning peoples’ vehicles as well as injuring himself which could lead to his death.
“In the light of the above, Aliyu Umaru was found culpable of being cruel to his son and has been charged to court accordingly,” the statement added.
