2022 flood affected 24,714 persons in FCT – Report

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has said at least 24,714  persons have been affected by floods in some parts of the territory in 2022.

The FCT Emergency Management Agency, in a report at the weekend, disclosed that the flood which had  affected 3 Area Councils out of the 6, had also displaced 3,695 persons with 131 property damaged.

In the report released to Journalists by the Director General  FEMA, Abbas Idriss, said in Abuja Municipal Area Council, 20, 376 persons were affected, 2, 058 persons in Bwari Area Council while Abaji Area Council recorded 2,280 cases.

It also accounted for 2,972 persons displaced in AMAC, 102 houses damaged, a total of 9,813 lives saved.

In Bwari Area Council, 343 households displaced, 6 damaged with 41 lives saved, no life was lost during the floods.

According to the report, 380 displaced in Abaji Area Council, 23 damaged with 272 lives saved.

“In AMAC, 6,876 persons were affected in the first flood at Ebano Hudu road by Damagaza river, Efab Estate Lokogoma, Apo – Dutsen expressway, Carters court Apo and Trademoore Estate, Lugbe.

“The second one affected 4, 368 persons in Lokogoma Carters Court Apo, Efab Estate Lokogoma, Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway by Lugbe. 

“Third one, 3060 at Nyanya phase 4. 3528 in Nyanya phase 4, by Redeemed Church with 2, 544 at Ipent 5 road, Lokogoma.

“In Bwari Area Council, the flood affected 2058 persons at Dutsen Makaranta by Police signpost, while in Abaji Area Council 2,280 persons were affected at abattoir behind Sarkin powa”.

The report also revealed that 15 incidents of road crashes were recorded but resolved in conjunction with relevant agencies.

“We responded to 15 incidents of road crashes, 10 fire incidents with a building collapse in Kubwa, where 5 persons were rescued with 2 fatally injured. No life was lost”
