From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh, Kano
Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria is declared polio-free by the Independent Regional Commission for Certification of Polio Eradication.
In a Statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, Ganduje also felicitated with Nigerians, Africans and the entire continent for getting off the hook of Polio after years of battle.
The apparently excited Ganduje noted that, “while the situation of the disease prevalence with Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan a few years back, was evident, we did our best to see to the end of the menace here in Nigeria. We thank Almighty Allah that we attained this position now.
“As a Deputy Governor then, when I was heading the state Committee in the fight against Polio, we worked very hard with the traditional institution, religious leaders and other stakeholders which helped in reaching our Polio-Free position today.”
He particularly praised Sarkin Yakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Aliyu Gaya and the then Commissioner of Health during Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso administration, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, describing them as, “frontline elements who sacrificed alot in making sure that Polio disease was eradicated in the state, which also meant eradicating the disease from the country. That snowballed into total eradication from the continent.”
While congratulating President Buhari, Ganduje pointed out that, the nation climbed the appreciable position during Buhari’s administration.
He commended previous administrations for the role they played during their reign, adding that, “it was indeed the collective effort towards eradicating the menace that helped immensely in attaining this position.”
