Anambra 2021: PDP to consult BoT, Obi, others

From Isaac Ojo, Nnewi

The Anambra State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disclosed that it would consult the party’s Board of Trustee (BoT), the party’s vice presidential candidate in the 2019 elections as well as other stakeholders before taking a decision on zoning of its governorship candidate for the 2021 election

Anambra PDP Chairman, Hon. Ndubuisi Nwobu, said the party was yet to take any decision on zoning ahead of the poll, adding that the party is not bothered about the clamor from some people that the candidate should be zoned to a particular people

Nwobu, who made the declaration at a press briefing on Wednesdays, also warned the State governor, Chief Willie Obiano to desist from involving the royal fathers and President Generals of communities in politics.

The PDP chairman said that the current crisis between the state government and some royal fathers wouldn’t have arisen if the governor had not made them to sign and endorse his zoning arrangements.

He however noted that in as much the royal fathers have right to air their views, but such views should be personal.

“If Obiano didn’t involve them albinitio, we wouldn’t be having the imbroglio happening between the government and some Igwes today”

Nwobu pointed out. “It is important for every duty bearer to learn to stay within the confine of their constitutional responsibility.” Nwobu stressed.

The PDP chairman however said that the party has at no time deliberated on the issue of zoning, noting that Board of Trustees members from the state, National Assembly members, State Assembly members and the Vice Presidential candidate of PDP in the last general elections, Mr Peter Obi, the PDP candidate in the last governorship election, Hon Oseloka Obaze would be consulted.

“Our party will discuss the issue of zoning at the appropriate time, we should however know that the constitution allows any qualified person to stand for elective positions.

“One thing we assure Anambra people is that the process will be transparent, the aspirants already know who the delegates are unlike in the past when the list of delegates would not be known until a day before election. ” He said.

He also berated the APGA controlled government in Anambra State for not conducting local government elections noting that funds for council areas are being hijacked and filtered away.

“Check all the PDP controlled states, they have conducted local government area elections, we will not be different if we make it to the Government House.” He concluded.
