Sequel to the recent heavy downpour in most parts of Plateau State, the State Government has caution residents to stop dumping of waste in waterways to control the predicted flood in 7 Local Government Areas of the state.
The State Government also said modalities have been put in place to ensure that citizens take responsibility of their waste in the future.
Commissioner of Environment, Hon. Yakubu Usman Idi, stated this when he received the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ Plateau Council, who were on a courtesy visit in his office at the Joseph Gomwalk State Secretariat, Jos.
Idi said, “Government has reintroduced the monthly sanitation in the state to enabled citizens cleared their environment.
He maintained that, “The recent environmental sanitation held in the state was a hug success.
According to him, the Ministry is introducing Fridays for the sanitation of offices and markets places, while Saturdays will be for residential cleaning across the state.
The Commissioner expressed his determination to partner with the Correspondents’ Chapel in creating awareness on the impact of human activities on the environment.
