Subscribers to national telecommunications Company, Globacom can now replace lost or damaged SIMs with the formal commencement of SIM card activations by the company.
In statement in Lagos, Globacom, stated that Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card activation and replacement has resumed at select Gloworld retail outlets across Nigeria.
According to the statement the company resumed SIM activation following the Federal Government announcement last week which lifted the ban on activation of new SIM cards, and replacement of lost ones. In December, 2020, the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy suspended SIM card activation and SIM replacement to allow Nigerians to link their SIM number to their National Identity Numbers.
As stated under the new guidelines issued by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), subscribers will only be able activate a new SIM or replace a lost/damaged SIM when they provide a valid National Identification Number (NIN).
“For us, the needs of our customers come first. We are keenly aware of the difficulty the ban had on our existing and prospective subscribers while it lasted and look forward to the respite they will have with the recommencement of SIM activations.” Globacom explained.
It added that, “We have already commenced SIM registration and activations in line with the announced guidelines of NCC. All our esteemed customers have to do is to visit the GLO SIM Activation outlet closest to them. It will be recalled that Globacom recently installed facilities at its sales outlets across the country to enable its subscribers to register for their National Identification Number (NIN) and link it to their SIMs, thus making it easier for them to comply with NCC’s directive.
Also, Appointment Manager, an application through which people desiring to register for NIN will be able to choose a day, time, and Gloworld outlet convenient for them to visit for the process, was also installed to make the process hassle-free.
