Police, hunters, vigilantes rescue kidnapped UniJos staff, husband

Two persons kidnapped at Haske Quarters, Lamingo in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, in the early hours of Monday morning have regained their freedom.


This was confirmed to our correspondent by the Spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Gabriel Ogaba.

THE AUTHORITY neighbours of the kidnapped UniJos Professor have revealed details of the incident.

The neighbour who pleaded anonymity said, the criminals came at 2am, broke into the apartment of the couple.


He said the gunmen shot into the air sporadically which made neighbours too terrified to respond or come to their rescue.
Prof. Grace Ayanbimpe and her husband  were kidnapped by unknown gunmen from their home behind Haske Quarters, Lamingo in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, 
The gunmen were said to have stormed their residence in the early hours of Monday.

A staff of the University of Jos had also confirmed the abduction to our correspondent saying, “ Prof Grace Ayanbimpe of Department of Medical Microbiology was abducted from their residence along with her husband this morning.

“Please, pray for their safe and quick release from their abductors. May we also see the end of insecurity in our country.”

“The kidnappers came to their house around 2 am. They broke into their apartment and shot into the air. Neighbours who were terrified by sounds of gunshots could not come out for the fear of being hit by stray bullets,” Dachung said.

“So, this morning, we discovered that the gunmen had taken the professor and her husband away. We don’t know where they are right now.”


Mentime, while confirming their release from their abductors, the Spokesman of the State Police Command, Ogaba said, “With the concerted effort of the Police Tactical Team of Plateau State Command, hunters and vigilantes, the Kidnapped Victims Prof. Grace Ayanbimpe and her husband Mr Isaac Ayanbimpe were released unhurt. That’s all I can tell you for now”.
