North-East group welcomes appointments of Yahaya, Nwachukwu

The North-East Enlightenment Network has welcome the appointment of Maj.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.


The group said that Yahaya during his tenure as the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole fought the insurgents in the region to a standstill.


They said that the appointment is a step in the right direction.


The group in a press release on Wednesday also welcomed the choice of Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu as the new Director, Army Public Relations (DAPR).


The press release signed by their Publicity Secretary, Danjuma Umar noted that the COAS on his appointment stated that terrorism will be defeated with modern processes, strategies and tactics.


“We are happy the Chief of Army Staff understands the way to go in restoring peace in the country.


“Gen. Yahaya during his time as Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole didn’t mince words as he fought the insurgents to a standstill.


“We are happy the COAS has deployed a sound communication veteran, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, with deep experience in the North-East to match the terrorists’ in the war of word for word.


“Just as the COAS identified modern processes, strategies and tactics in the fight against terrorism, Brig. Gen. Nwachukwu on assumption as DAPR established the fact that the sword or gun alone cannot, provide a panacea to the complex and multifaceted security challenges.


“The North-East Enlightenment Network (NEEN) is happy to have a COAS that understands the dynamics of the region. He has also gone ahead to deploy a communicator that understands the region.


“We in the North-East will continue to support the COAS to ensure peace is restored in the region.


“We appeal to our people to support the Nigerian Army and military in general to achieve peace in no distant time.”
