Police in hot pursuit of armed bandits that kidnapped students, staff at FGC Yauri in Kebbi State

A combined team of Police operatives are reportedly in the hot pursuit of bandits that attacked the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi state. 

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kebbi State, DSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said the team, comprising of operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Anti-kidnapping and Counter-terrorism units, are currently combing nearby forests, routes and suspected hideouts of the criminals.

 

In a statement after the abduction, the spokesperson added that the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeleke Adeyinka, has condemned the attack, promising to track down the perpetrators. “The attack resulted in the death of one policeman and gunshot injury to one of the students.

The command is following credible leads and intensifying efforts to track the assailants and ensure the rescue of the missing students and teachers. “Following the attack, three teachers and yet to be ascertained number of students are still missing,” he said.

It was gathered that the armed bandits abducted some teachers, as well as male and female students during the invasion and shot at security personnel during the exchange of gunfire. It was however also gathered that during the exchange of gunfire between the security personnel and the bandits who came in several motorcycles, several students and staffs escaped into the bush, while a mobile policeman was killed among others that were also injured. 

The situation at Birnin Yauri is tensed as people are in a state of confusion,” our correspondent gathered.An online medium, PRNigeria, also reported that the heavily armed bandits on motorcycles came from neighbouring Rijau forest in Niger State.
