The Nigerian Army (NA)has disowned what it described as a doctored video footage released bysecessionist sympathisers on Youtube, featuring blurred images of some personsdressed in green camouflage destroying a farmland in an undisclosedlocation recently.
Director Army PublicRelations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu in a press release on Saturdaysaid the doctored video is an attempt to denegrate the reputation and image ofthe NA.
He said the authors ofthe video mischievously attributed the action of the persons to the military byfalsely claiming they are soldiers and invariably personnel of the NigerianArmy.
According to him”However, following a fact finding investigation on the videoby subjecting it to credible reverse image, it was discovered that the videowas first published on YouTube channel “BIAFRA BOY” . Theinvestigation also revealed that the image of the men in green camouflage wasdeliberately blurred to conceal their identity from viewers. Similarly theauthors failed to identify the location, community, or Local Government Areathe incident occured.
“Given thesefacts, it is apparent that the video footage is a deliberate propaganda by ESNto bring the reputation and image of the NA to disrepute by portrayingpersonnel of the NA as enemies of the people.
“Members of thegeneral public are please urged to be warry of such negative propagandamaterials and subject them to thorough scrutiny. We therefore urge the publicto please discountenance the propaganda video as it is the machination ofmischief makers targeting the Nigerian military.
“We reassure thegeneral public that the Nigerian Army will continue to operate professionallyregardless of all divisive propaganda. We assure all peace loving Nigerians ofour commitment to aid civil authorities in the containment of securitychallenges in line with constitutional provisions.”
