Rivers: Council Chairman lauds Police over security in LG

The Chairman, Andoni Local Government Council in Rivers State, Mr Erastus Awortu, has commended the Police and other Security group for the security achievements recently had in the LGA.

This as the LGA boss has lauded security agencies for the recovering of six outboard engines worth over N10M from a suspected sea pirate in the area council.

Speaking at the weekend at the council headquarters in Ngo, Awortu said “This morning,  the new local security initiative of my administration in conjunction with the police in Ngo the council’s headquarters recovered six outboard engines from suspected sea pirate who reside within the area.

“Based on reliable intelegence made available  by the local vigilantee, a hide-out used as a mini Warehouse for proceeds of crime was uncovered by the police.

“About six outboard engines worth over 10M and a mini electricity generating set was recovered in the process, the items were suspected to have been forcefully taken from innocent local traders and fishermen in the area.

“The suspect, a middle-aged male has been in police custody undergoing interrogation.

“As a council, we are delighted for this achievement because insecurity has been a worrisome issue in our area,” he said.

 Awortu however, charged residents of the area to take responsibility by assisting the police with useful information that would help uncover other criminal hide-outs within the area council.

 “As a government, we are committed to restoring sanity to this environment and so far, we are witnessing progress in that regard and peace is fast returning to our communities.

“I know there are pockets of criminal elements just like what we witnessed today but I’m optimistic that all suspects on security watchlist will be finished out very soon.

“We believe that this arrest will assist the police uncover other criminal hide-outs and even crime proceed lodged within the area council and this will help the security track down other pirates troubling the peace in Andoni and Opobo waterways.

“We have a local security team, the formation  basically gathers useful information for the police so we rely greatly on the police and I appreciate the senergy.
