Insecurity:Adamawa orders indefinite closure of 30 boarding schools

The Adamawa State Government has ordered Indefinite closure of30 boarding Junior Secondary Schools in the State.

The Government, in a statement issued on Sunday by theCommissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Wilbina Jackson,said the indefinite closure takes effect from September 6, 2021; adding thatthe move was a proactive measure to ensure the safety of students.

The state government’s action cameamidst escalating banditry in the country resulting in the kidnap of hundredsof schoolchildren across many states in Nigeria.

The four schools that will not beaffected by the closure are; Government Girls Junior Secondary School (GGJSS),Yola, General Murtala Mohammed College, Yola, Special School Jada and SpecialSchool, Mubi.

The statement reads: “The Hon.Commissioner Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, wishes toannounce that 30 boarding junior secondary schools out of the 34 schools in thestate, have been de-boarded with effect from 6th September, 2021. From nowhenceforth, all the 30 government junior secondary schools are now day schools.

” The remaining four that are notaffected are Government Girls Junior Secondary School Yola, General MurtalaMohammed College Yola, Special School Jada and Special School Mubi.

“This becomes necessary due to thepresent incessant security challenges faced by the country and owing tostudents’ tender age, hence the need for them to study under the care of theirparents.

” All students from the affected schoolsare to be placed in the nearest public junior secondary schools within theircatchment or domicile areas. Stakeholders, PTA, ANCOPS and others are to ensurecompliance with this government policy.”
