…Seizes Contraband Worth Over N41.3 Million In Three Months

Kano/Jigawa Customs Command has generated N16, 909, 520,467.32 Kobo billion within the last eight months.
The Command also seized assorted contraband items worth N41,398, 000.00 million between 2021 and September 23, 2021, running into a space of three months.
The Area Controller in-chage of the Command, Mr. Suleiman Pai Umar told Journalists, on Thursday, that the impressive revenue generation goal was as a result of the awareness created by Customs on the ease of doing business in Nigeria, “and by encouraging citizens to patronize out Terminals in the Command.”
He listed the seized items to include: 707 bags of 50kg foreign rice with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N20, 503, 000; 155 bales of second hand clothes with DPV of N11, 625,000; 16 Jerry cans f vegetable oil with DPV of N334,000; 130 cartons of spaghetti with DPV of N1,950,000; 231 cartons of milky creamer with DPV of N5, 082, 000.
He said the Command also seized: eight cartons of macaroni with DPV of N104, 000; 30 packs of mosquito coils with DPV N660,000; 29 cartons of couscous with DPV of N337, 000; 10 cartons of Tiger Head batteries with DPV of N220,000; six sacks of snuff (made in Ghana) with DPV N308, 000; including 185 cartons of unregistered expired drugs.
According to him, the collaboration and synergy that exist amongst all the security agencies has contributed positively in doing our job and the handing over of seized 185 cartons of unregistered and expired drugs to operatives of NAFDAC is an attestation to this cooperation.”
The Customs boss insisted that, “the policy of the Federal Government to ban the importation of rice and some other foreign products was not with an ill intention, but to save our local industries and to have a robust economy.
“We have lots of rice Mills here n Kano state that produces rice of good standard, and I see no reason for the need to patronize foreign rice.”
He emphasized the fact that, “it has been a difficult time for the nation and we must acknowledge the fact hat the government is working round the clock to put an end to the challenges of insecurity in the country.
He regretted that, even with government’s efforts, “some unscrupulous citizens still try to sabotage these efforts.We will not allow their selfish interest to override the interest of the country.”
Area Controller Suleiman, however, pointed out that, “the patronage and consumption of unregistered/ hard drugs are of great concern due to its consequences on our teeming youths. Most of these criminal acts are carried out under the influence of these hard drugs and we will continue to fight it at all cost.”
While seeking for more cooperation from the public in terms of divulging useful information about smugglers and their nefarious activities, the Customs boss also commended his men and officers for their commitment to duty, urging them to put in more efforts.
