NANNS tells Buhari to end banditry, kidnapping

The National Association of Northern Nigerian Students, NANNS, at the weekend tasked the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, to clampdown, eliminate bandits and kidnapping of students in Northern Institutions to avert killing education in the area.
The students body, however, expressed worries over the recent activities of bandits and kidnappers in the country, stressing that insecurity in the northern region has disturbing dimensions and would tear the country apart if not checkmated.
President of the association, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim made the call at this year’s United Nation International Day of Peace in Abuja, organised by West African Action Network on Small Arms and Global Peace Advocate and Empowerment Initiative.
Ibrahim noted that it was high time the government took decisive and drastic measures to arrest the security challenges facing the country adding that nobody is safe anymore in the country especially students.

“The incessant attacks on students have become a threat to education. If something is done to end this kidnappings and banditry in the North, these crimes are about sending education to the grave, in that region”.
The highlight of the occasion was also the recognition of Prof. May Nwoye as International Peace Ambassador and advocate of Peace and Unity of Nigeria
In her response, Prof Nwoye begged the NANNS leadership to always sustain their commitment to United Nigeria where everyone will have a sense of becoming and containment she advocates non violence resolution of conflict circumstances.
According to her, the future belongs to the youths and they are the hope of the country. She enjoined all Nigerians to work and represent peace in their families and the Nation at large.
