The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army, has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory of their safety.
This comes a day after some alleged bandits attacked the Staff Quarters of University of Abuja along Giri Road and took away some staff members.
The Commander of the Brigade, Brig. Gen. Muhammed Usman in a parley with media men in Abuja stated that his formation was equal to the task.
He solicited the support of the residents to gather intelligence to help in the task of securing and defending the society effectively..
The Commander noted that troops of the Brigade have been deployed on a ‘search and rescue’ operation to recover affected persons and apprehend the criminals.
He appealed for collaboration with the media on nation building as partners in progress by ensuring that reports desiminated to the public are not only true but verified and confirmed, saying fake news may cause apprehension and do more harm than good.
The Commander who described the attack on University of Abuja Staff Quarters as unfortunate, said, the parley was timely, seeing that general security happenings and the need for all hands to be on deck to ensure the safety of lives and properties were discussed.
Also in their separate remarks, the Commander Guards Brigade Garrison, Lt. Col. Joshua Okwoli, Commanding Officer, 7 Guards Battalion, Lt. Col. Salim Hassan and the Brigade Chief of Staff, Lt. Col. Rilwan Bello assured that men and officers of the Brigade are currently in the field across the Federal Capital to forestall security breach.
The Units Commanders also assured that anyone supporting the security agencies with credible information is also being proactive in carrying out his civic duties as responsible citizens and would enhance and support the various ongoing security operations to secure the society.
The senior officers said more technology are being deployed to aid the operations of security agencies in several ongoing security operations.
They appealed to all citizens to remain law abiding and conscious of the security situations in their various domains.
