A former member of the House of Representatives and a chieftain of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party vying for the governorship seat in Plateau State, Hon. Timothy Golu, has vow to build on the legacies of three past governors of the State if elected come 2023.
While paying tribute to former governors Joseph Gomwalk, Solomon Lar and Jonah Jang, the former legislator said, his choice of the three elder state men was deliberate, because of their landmark achievements in the state.
Golu disclosed this while addressing the State Executive Council of the PDP and other stakeholders of the party, as he declares to run for the governorship of the state.
He said, “I want to pay tribute to the governments of Plateau State, starting from Baba Joseph Gomwalk, who laid a very solid foundation for this state; followed by Baba Solomon Lar of the NPN (the emancipator), who was also a founding father of our great party (PDP). From there to the government of Da Jonah Jang; these are the governments I admire and have done well for the State.
“I’m here today to seek the blessings of the party, because I want to occupy the office of the governor of Plateau State, so that I can continue from where these I paid tribute to stop.
According to him, “These three administrations I mentioned is deliberate; and if we are to list or enumerate their various achievements that they have done for the people of Plateau and their records in the democratic annals of Nigeria, definitely everybody is going to clap for them, including those in power today.
The former lawmaker who represented Kanke Constituency and was Chief Whip in the 7th Plateau State House Assembly, maintained that, he wants to use the the experience he gained during his sojourn as a journalist, member House of Representatives, among others, “I want to continue to use this experience for the benefit of our state and nation at large.
“Part of my inspiration to vie for the governorship seat is as a result of the total failure of the ruling APC at the national, state and local government levels.
Golu who represented Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam in the House of Representatives, said during his term in the 8th Assembly, he was able to attract over N100 billion worth of projects in his constituency.
Responding, chairman of the PDP in the state, Hon. Chris Hassan, appreciated the aspirant for coming out to contest for the number one seat in the state.
Hassan assured that the party will give a level playing ground to all aspirants.
“This party wanet to give leadership to those who have respect for the party”, he stressed.
