From Salisu Zakari Maradun, Gusau

The 2,500 special constabulary Police recruited about 2 years ago to assist the police in Zamfara, have cried out over non-payment of their allowances and other entitlements for the period.

The special constabulary said since the day they were recruited to date, no single kobo came into their pockets as either allowance or salary.

The spokesperson of the aggrieved members, Malan Ishak Sank made this known when they stormed the premises of the NUJ press centre to express their concern on the painful issue.

According to him, many of them have family, but because of the importance of the service, they opted to remain in as it involved security.

He explained that apart from the 1000 naira given to each one of them for transport to their various destination after their inauguration at the police command in Gusau, nobody has ever thought of giving them anything.

Speaking further, the spokesperson stated that many of them died in the hands of bandits in addition to a large number of others who sustained injuries all in the course of carrying out their civic responsibility.

Sank revealed also that they once tried to meet with the government with regard to the problem, but in vain as they stopped at the by the security attached to the house.

He, therefore, called on any authority that is shouldered with the responsibility of their payment to hasten and effect the payment so that they can live like every other Nigerian.
