The Super Eagles finished their group stage campaign at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon Wednesday night with an impressive 2-0 win against Guinea-Bissau at the Roumde Adija Stadium, Garoua.
Super Eagles head coach and former striker, Austine Eguavoen, made eight changes to his line-up with goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, Tyronne Ebuehi, Jamilu Collins, Kelechi Nwakali, Alex Iwobi, Chidera Ejuke and Umar Sadiq, making the list of his first start at the competition.
The former champions dominated the opening duration of the match with the Guinea-Bissau national side running around the field in circle.
The Super Eagles however struggled to make any meaningful use of their dominance, missing several goal scoring opportunities despite their dominance.
Sadiq and Semi Ajayi wasted Nigeria’s best chances in the first half.
The Super Eagles got a reward for their attacking display when Sadiq netted the opener in the 56 minute following a superb cross from Kelechi Iheanacho.
The English Club, Watford defender, William Troost- Ekong, put the game beyond Guinea-Bissau with the second goal 15 minutes after.
Both sides will however wait for the completion of group stage games today, Thursday, to know their opponent as the tournament rolls on.
