Bauchi Govt. partners USAID on effective public financial management

Bauchi State Government partners with US Agency for International Development (USAID) on effective financial management for good governance.

The (USAID) Nigeria’s State Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness (State 2 State) Activity has organised three days’ workshop on effective and efficient public financial management.

The workshop which commenced on January 25, 2022, was organised for senior level government officials from relevant MDAs.

Our correspondent further reports that the theme of the workshop is entitled “Accountable, transparent, effective and efficient public financial management, a vital tool for good governance”.

The State Head of Civil Service Bauchi state, Mr Yahuza Haruna, said the essence of the workshop is to see that participants are better equipped.

“Especially in implementing budgeting, physical responsibility and public procurement acts, which is one of the cornerstone of the current administration of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.

Haruna said the calibre of participants at the workshop reiterated the commitment of the state government to ensure that public financial management is used as an instrument of achieving good governance.

According to him, during the workshop the participants will be looking at the issue of budgeting, procurement and physical discipline (how the resources are managed within the budget).

He said that the participants at the end of the training would be equipped with key tools and strategies on financial management, concepts and practices, making it easy for financial implementation.

Similarly, the Deputy Chief of Party (DCoP) of USAID State2State Mr John Onyeukwu, expressed optimism that at the end of the three days’ workshop the participants would have a better understanding of the principles and practices of public financial management.

A participant at the workshop, Dr Esther Ahmed, Director General, Sustainable Development Goals, Bauchi state, expressed optimism that she would go back with a toolbox of strategies that would help her in prudent financial management on the job.

The participants at the workshop were directors, commissioners and permanent secretaries drawn from the various MDA’s and that the workshop which commenced on January 25 would end on January 27, 2022.
