About 104 fighters of a Boko Haram splinter group, the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) and purported members of their families, have reportedly surrendered to the Nigerian military in Borno State.

According to information from the military, the surrendered terrorists and family members comprise of 22 males, 27 females and 55 children.

They surrendered to the troops of 25 Task Force Brigade, Damboa, Borno State, on Saturday 5 February 2022.

Last week, military fighter aircraft, including Super Tucano, belonging to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), ‘aggressively’ raided ISWAP camps in the weeklong sustained aerial attacks, killing several of them.

About 25 of ISWAP fighters including their commanders reportedly perished in Marte River while fleeing from aerial bombardments by the Air Force.

The surrendered, probably had negotiated their surrender before the bombardments, which spared them or they may have hidden in unsuspicious places on their numbers, after which they surrendered as announced by the Military.
