The FCT Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps said it has deployed three thousand personnel for the Six Area Council elections for Saturday, February 12.
The Commandant of the Corps, Peter Maigari announced this on Thursday in press briefing in Abuja.
He said the personnel were deployed to help protect critical infrastructure during the election.
Maigari noted that the FCT Command as one of the security agencies that would be participating in providing security for the election is fully ready for the exercise.
He also urged key political actors and their supporters to shun violence, by conducting themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner, as the election is not a do-or-die affair.
He noted that the Nigeria Police Force is the lead agency as far as election security is concerned, but with the support of other components of the security system, who are part of the Election security Committee.
“We are deploying a total number of three thousand personnel , just only for the election. And much more personnel will be deployed to protect critical infrastructure and national assets.
“Equally, some other supporting units will assist in the provision of security, interestingly , the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar, has supported the Command, with vehicular logistics and other equipment that would be needed for the election, so that we will have a free, fair and credible exercise”
