FCT Council elections: Confusion as exercise begins

By Daniel Tyokua

There is confusion in almost all the sixty two political wards that make up the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory as accreditation and voting begun in the early hours of Saturday.

In Abaji Area Council prospective voters at Ona of Abaji palace polling unit, Angwar Sabo and Abaji Central Primary School were stranded as the Bvax malfunction leaving the Independent Electoral Commission Officials helpless.
Ibrahim Musa with Yahaya Sadiq, PDP and APC agents in the area blamed INEC for its inability to ensure that the exercise go on without hiccups.

In Kuje Area Council central ward prospectives were seeing milling round the polling unit without neither electoral material nor the INEC officials.

At Karu ward in Abuja Municipal Area Council, polling unit O02 and 005, there was zero turn out of voters for the exercise..

However, one of the prospective voter at Karu who identify herself as Pauline told  The AUTHORITY that she was being frustrated by the situation.

“No voters register for the electorate to identify their names, we are moving round without direction, its back and front situation”

It is the same situation in Garki as of the the time of filling this report.

At polling unit 002 in Jiwa Ward, according to the Presiding Officer, Agwu Agnes, a total of 2,401 ballot papers were provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the Chairmanship and councillorship election.

Interestingly, while the names of candidates of the different political parties participating in the Chairmanship election were displayed, that of the APC candidate was conspicuously missing.

It could be recalled that the supreme court on Thursday upheld the candidacy of Murtala Karshi, against Alhassan Suleiman Gwagwa (aka Biggy), who was, until the Thursday ruling, the popular candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters.

At Kugbo 1 and 2 only five persons voted in both the polling units leaving the other prospectives voters stranded.
