The chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon Abdullahi Adamu Candido has advised winners and contestants in the last council’s election to put the issues behind and focus on governance.
He stated this while speaking in a meeting on Monday, with the AMAC chairman – elect and other chairmanship candidates at the just concluded poll.
Candido explained that the growth of AMAC should be the concern of all, and not partisan politics which will affect the development of the Area Council.
The chairman stated that the council is greater than any politician, political party and contestant, therefore people must be keen on its growth.
According to him, the essence of the meeting was to congratulate both winners and contestants for having interest in the development of the council.
Candido said: “AMAC needs to grow from strength to Strength because is an institution, it is greater than we the political parties, candidates and the leaders, the institution is important. We want AMAC to get better, so all the candidates in the just concluded election should give their support to the chairman – elect because he may not posses all the ideas, is not possible.
“It is not about I must get it now, those of you that contested the election may get it some day. We are moving and closing in on the tenure of this administration, I congratulated all of you for participating in the election” he said.
He described the election as a good conduct, “Should we call those that didn’t win as losers? No, all of them are partakers because they have all participated in the process, on behalf of the Area Council, management, staff and people of AMAC, I formally congratulate the chairman-elect, his vice and all other chairmanship candidates in the last concluded election.
“The overall thing is that AMAC must be seen growing, and it must grow with time because whether you give it ten years, the ten years will come and go, even if you give it twenty years, the twenty years will still come to pass.
“The essence of contesting for any position in the council is to contribute to the development, what can we do to support AMAC to succeed? It is no longer politics, we must throw partisan politics behind us, when we get to the point of partisan politics we can resume”
However, the chairman-elect on the platform of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), Christopher Maikanligun commended the chairman for the honour, he promised to take development to the rural dwellers.
