The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has called on the Emergency Management Agency to do more in fire prevention across the territory.
Adesola Olusade, FCTA permanent secretary gave the charge when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Agency.
In a statement issued by FEMA’s Public Relations Officer Nkechi Isa, Olusade called on the officials to continue to sensitize Abuja residents on the need to avert fire disasters.
Adesola noted that if FEMA can replicate its campaign carried out against flooding, the FCT will record fewer fire outbreaks this dry season.
While reiterating that the services rendered by FEMA are not paid for, the Permanent Secretary assured the Administration’s support for the Agency to deliver on its mandate.
“Your quick response during disasters gives succour to the victims, and this was aptly demonstrated during the kerosene explosion.
“Anytime there is a disaster, you are the first responder, and we must continue to support you. Keep the flag flying”, he stressed.
Earlier, the Director General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idriss, who opined that Mr Olusade was the first Permanent Secretary to visit FEMA, thanked him for his support for the agency.
Idriss, however appealed for more office space for the agency, given that the present office premises were inadequate.
