As the fireworks over the consensus arrangement which endorsed Gov. Bala Mohammed and Sen. Bukola Saraki rages, some elders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have said that the Ango Abdullahi committee’s position does not have the backing of Nothern Elders Forum.
The group led by former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido in a Press conference on Monday in Abuja said that the word Nothern PDP is an abberation which exists only in the imagination of Ango Abdullahi and his co-travellers.
The elder statesman and PDP Presidential aspirant in 2019 said that the aspirant are still going on with discussions on consensus and are willing to subject themselves to a primary election if consensus fails
“We would like to state from the onset that there is nothing called theNorthern PDP. Our coming together as key stakeholders from theNorthern States is only for the purposeof debunking any notion orimpression which might have been created by Prof Ango Abdullahimedia statement about the Northern Elders Forum having shortlisted consensus PDP presidential Candidates.
“The People’s Democratic Party as conceived by its founding fathers isand remains the foremost National Political platform wherein theDemocratic aspirations of its teeming members can be actualizeddevoid of any sectional consideration. Our party is neither Northernnor Southern but Nigeria”.
Accompanied by Adamu Waziri, Babangida Aliyu, Dino Melaye, Boni Haruna, Ibrahim Idris and a host Nothern elders, Lamido continued, “We are happy to note that The Northern Elders Forum has through its Secretary Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed disassociated itself from Prof Ango’s media statement. They made it clear that it is Ango’s personal opinion.
“The Aspirants have informed us that they are discussing amongthemselves. They are consulting other senior citizens in order tocreate a better understanding and unity among themselves. Theirultimate objective is to build a National Consensus that will producea National Candidate for the Party”.
