President Muhammadu Buhari says his wish is to have candidates with integrity to emerge winners in 2023 general elections.

He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring peaceful and fair conduct of the elections next year.

He bared his mind at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Thursday when he hosted an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant vying for the Kano Central Senatorial District seat, Senator Basheer Lado.

Lado’s meeting with the President came a day before the senatorial primary elections of the APC holding Friday, May 27, 2022.

Briefing State House Correspondents after the meeting, Lado said Buhari expressed his unshaken determination to allow the process of credible polling equally produce candidates with integrity as winners.

“After my briefing, Mr. President reiterated his commitment to credible and peaceful elections and also his desire to see candidates with integrity prevail at the polls all across Nigeria,” Lado said.

The Senator also assured the President of usual massive votes for the APC in Kano State despite ongoing political realignments there that saw some members defecting from the party.

According to Lado: “As you are aware, Kano State is the largest producer of votes in Nigeria. It is the decider of who becomes the next President in the presidential election.

“Just like my Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has done in the past, I respectfully informed and reassured Mr. President that the APC is still the party to beat in Kano despite recent defections.”
