The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has elected a former Chief Judge of Anambra State, Retired Justice Peter Umeadi, as its presidential candidate, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Justice Umeadi, who was the sole candidate emerged as the candidate of the party, following an affirmation by about 150 party delegates at the APGA national headquarters in the katampe district of the Federal capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
While declaring Umeadi winner, the National Chairman of the party, Victor Ike Oye, boasted that APGA is poised to win laurels in next year’s general election.
“Our party does not engage in frivolities or political grandstanding. We say what we will do. Our party will win more than 20 senatorial seats in the next general election,” he said.
Umeadj asked Nigerians to respect the ballot and promised to secure votes at the polls that would transform the county.
The Professor of Law at the University of Nigeria, joined the party in his Nri Ward II in Anaocha area of Anambra following his retirement as the Chief Judge in March 2019.
He had explained that his decision to join partisan politics was to keep his brain active, saying those who retire and go to sleep end up having their brain asleep.
Prominent APGa members who graced the occasion included its governorship candidate in Delta state, Great Ogboru; Abia North Senatorial candidate, Senator Enyinaya Abaribe and former Minister of Information and Communication, Mr Frank Nweke Jr. who also the party’s governorship candidate in Enugu state.
