The chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikakalangu has mapped out new measures to curb revenue leakages in the council.
He said all taxes must be paid into the council’s bank account and not by hand or to consultants and technically partners, as was in the past.
Briefing journalists in Abuja, Maikakalangu said the new roadmap would block leakages, sanitise the system and improve revenue generation.
Maikakalangu explained that to achieve a positive revenue drive system, the council had opened new bank account to ease the payment process.
“This attempt is to also curb the menace of multiple taxation, stop touting, extortion and other forms of extortions and diversion of the Council’s revenues.
“I want to call on the general public to understand our predicament, cooperate and form a formidable synergy by partnering with us to move AMAC forward.
“We call on everyone to report any suspected case of diversion, extortion and irregularity to us or security agencies nearest to them.
“It is no longer news that the Abuja Municipal Area Council under my leadership terminated all contracts entered into by past administrations on Thursday, 5th October, 2022 with all technical partners on revenue generation on behalf of the Area Council.
He explained that the new policy would bring about transparency and accountability in the entire system.
