The All Progress Congress[APC] candidate for Enugu West senatorial district in the 2023 general elections,Prof Nick Ezeh,has described Enugu West senatorial zone as among the list developed senatorial zone in the country,amidst the great economic potentials that abounds in the zone. He promised to revitalize the Oji River Thermal Power station and other abandoned government federal institutions within Enugu West senatorial district, to aid development of the zone, thereby boosting national economy.
Prof Nick Ezeh,who is a Professor of Political Economic and an industrialist of International repute,dropped this hints while unveiling his manifesto of development of Enugu West senatorial zone, if elected as the next senator of the zone. He promised to bring his wealth of experience,both local and international contacts to bear in the development of the zone,if elected.
His words,’It is an incontrovertible fact that we rank among the least developed senatorial zones in the country. My focus is to bring to bear my knowledge,my wealth of experience and my contacts locally and globally to reverse our present pitiable state of affairs. Before I publicly stepped forward for this service,I have had the privilege of traveling to every part of our constituency. I have keenly watched,interacted and listened to the concerns and yearnings of constituents of the five local government areas that makes up our senatorial districts’.
The five local government areas that makes up Enugu West senatorial zone are Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Oji River and Udi local government areas.
According to Prof Nick Ezeh,despite the fact that Enugu West senatorial zone is an agrarian community with so many investment and development potentials, the zone has not witnessed the much needed federal government presence in the form of infrastructural,educational and institutional facilities.
His words,’ The very few federal institutions in the zone are mostly dilapidated,lacking in modern upgrades and maximum support they need. Even the existing infrastructure,most of which were developed in the colonial times are all in states of disrepair. A typical example is the Oji River power plant which has been completely destroyed’.
‘The situation is worrisome considering that the functionality of these facilities could present veritable and practical avenues for development and employment for the good people of Enugu West and indeed the state at large. The rehabilitation of these facilities and the establishment of new ones are at the heart of this campaign.
Responding to questions that the present Senator of Enugu West senatorial district,Senator Ike Ekweremadu,who is on his fourth consistent term is adjudged among the best of senators in the current democratic dispensation,Prof Eze said that the good performance of Senator Ekweremadu at the national assembly,did not translate into development of Enugu West senatorial zone,stating he is in the race to make a difference.
