Ihiala Local Goverment Area Secretariat was in the early hours of Thursday razed down by gunmem.
Sources claimed that the gunmen in their large number stormed the council area Secretariat at about 2.00am and killed the security guard on duty.
Dangerous weapons like Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Ak47 and otherr were freely used during the night attack.
An official of council who pleaded for anonymity said that the entire structure is gone.
“Our LG is gone, they have finished everything, the night guard was killed, this terrible, there is no justifications for this kind of destruction.
“Ihiala Local Goverment Area Secretariat is one of the oldest in the state with solid structures, that has become history overnight, it’s unfortunate.” She asserted.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Tochukwu Ikenga(DSP) has confirmed the incident.
He said that the command got the information of the attack in the early hours of the day and mobilized joint security team comprising the Army, police and other operatives to the place.
The PPRO said that one of the operatives neutralized one of the gunmem and recovered 40 pieces of live cartridges, fifteen 7.62mm Ak47 ammunition, knives, charms and other dangerous weapons.
Our correspondent who visited the scene of the incident report that the entire Ihiala community has been thrown into a panic mode because of the midnight attack.
