As Nigeria marked it’s 53rd Rememberance Day of the nation’s fallen heroes on Sunday,January 15, the Diocese of Oji River, Anglican Communion used that remarkable day of the nation’s history to fete Nigerian war veterans and prayed for utmost peace devoid of war to reign in Nigeria.
The Bishop of Oji River Diocese(Anglican) Communion, Rev Dr Amos Madu, expressed gratitude for the continued co existence of Nigeria and prayed for the restoration of the Igbo nation’s pride and position in the country.
He revealed that the aftermath of the Nigeria civil war experience, he received a spiritual rebirth to serve God and was welcomed by the missionary on the first instance.
He stated,” As a result of the civil war, I received the calling to serve God.My survival from the war was a miracle. I would have died at Nsukka.at Udi or Emene, but God Almighty rescued me.
‘ I did not die but I saw other people die.I saw men and group of people suffer and later die. I promised God I will serve him in the church, if he spare my life’.
The service was also marked with prayers for the repose of all souls lost during the ill fated war and thanksgiving for the surviving war veterans.
The war veterans received special gifts from the diocese and were treated to lunch, after the service.
The War veterans who attended the service numbering over fifty were given opportunity to narrate their war experience and testimony of their survival, but only few had the priviledge of doing that before the congregation due to time constraints.
