From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh, Kano

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday in Kano, promised that the Tinubu/Shetima presidency will revolutionalize the health, education and agricultural sectors if voted into power on February 25.

Replying to demands made by women drivers in education, health, agriculture, business and entrepreneurship, during a Town Hall meeting held for women leaders across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State, Senator Oluremi Tinubu also promised that the Tinubu/Shetima administration will give women grants for economic empowerment if given the mandate by Nigerians.

She observed that Kano State, under the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, remains in the lead on the girl-child education, adding that, “the Governor has done it all, since basic education is free and compulsory in the state.”

She further stated that the Tinubu/Shetima administration will ensure free, compulsory basic education for all Nigerian children, adding that they will come up with incentives that will persuade the girl-child to remain in school.

According to her, the Tinubu/Shetima administration will not only ensure grants and empowerment for the women, but will also come up with policies that will encourage adult education for the women.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu also spoke passionately on the need to revamp the health sector, taking into cognizance the issue of braindrain due to the mass exodus of Nigerian Medical Doctors and Pharmacists abroad in search of greener pastures.

She said if voted into power, the Tinubu/Shetima administration will come up with policies that will enable Doctors and other health workers stay back in Nigeria and make the health sector viable so as to discourage medical tourism abroad.

“Nigerians have the best brains in the health sector, and we will ensure that Nigerian Doctors and other health workers do the best for us,” she said.

Speaking on agriculture, she reminded the gathering that Nigeria have the best weather and soil, recalling that Lagos in partnership with Kebbi state is setting the pace in rice production.

She also said the Tinubu/Shetima administration will be very passionate in revamping the economy through creation of enabling business environment.

While commending President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in its achievements in power and other sectors, she said the Tinubu/Shetima administration will build upon the foundation laid by the Buhari’s administration.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu described Kano as the second home of the Tinubus, recalling that about 40 years ago, she stayed one full year in Sabon Gari, Kano, during her National Youth Service programme.

“I came to Kano To thank you for the support you have given to my husband. Kano is the second home of the Tinubus. Forty years ago, I stayed a whole year in Kano.

“I stayed in Sabon Gari while doing my youth service. I enjoyed myself. I want to thank you for your warm reception. Thank you Kano.

“We are grateful to the North. God bless Kano. God bless the North. God bless Nigeria.”

She, however, gifted the women N2 million Naira as transportation to their various destinations, while donating 50, 000 pieces of wrappers and unspecified number of bags of rice to women across Kano State.

In her remarks, the First Lady of Kano State, Prof. Hafsat Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, described the event as very important and historic, not only to Kano women, but to the entire people of Kano state.

She thanked God for bringing Senator Oluremi Tinubu to Kano safe and in good health, and recalled that on January 4, during the APC presidential rally, Kano stood still for Tinubu for several hours, which is a testament that Kano people are fully supporting Tinubu.

She described her husband, Governor Ganduje, as a leader who has shown love for women, through economic empowerment and political appointments.

She said Ganduje’s administration, unlike previous administrations in the state, has allowed women to contribute their quota in governance.

She appealed to Kano women to come out en masse and vote for Tinubu/Shetima presidency on February 25.

According to her, “in Kano, there is alot of development. The thinking of Baba Ganduje is similar, if not the same with the thinking of our leader, Tinubu, because they always think of how to improve the lives of the people, particularly, women and children.”

She told the Kano women that Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Hajiya Nana Kashim Shetima were once First Ladies like her and did exactly what she is doing to improve the lives of women in the state, urging them to vote for Tinubu/Shetima presidency so that the two women will continue with their good works and spread it across Nigeria.

The meeting held at Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, which attracted wives of APC gubernatorial candidate and his Deputy, hundreds of the All Progressive Congress (APC) women leaders, including wives of Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen, Special Advisers, as well as wives of party leaders and stakeholders, was organized by the First Lady of Kano State, Prof. Hafsat Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
