The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Dr Peter Mbah has won the 2023 Enugu state governorship election.
In the result declared late last, March 22, by the INEC Returning officer in Enugu,Prof.Maduebisi Iwe, Dr Peter Mbah,won his closest rivalry,Barr.Chijioke Edeoga of Labour party with a simple majority. He polled a total vote of 160,895 against Edeoga’s 157,552 votes. The APGA candidate came third with much lower score of 17,000 votes just as the APC candidate,Chief Uche Nnaji polled a little above 14 000 valid votes cast in the election.
The PDP flag bearer, Dr Peter Mbah’s victory in the Enugu state governorship election is the saving grace of the it’s dismantling in Enugu state by the Labour party, based on the results of the 2023 elections.
Against the PDP political culture of winning all elective positions in the state, the Labour party aided by the ‘Obidient Movement’ slogan in the 2023 General elections won two out of the three senatorial seats to represent the state in the red chambers, Seven out of the eight federal law makers goiing to the green chambers of the 10th National assembly.
LP will also produce the next Speaker of Enugu state house of assembly as 14 out of the 24 members of the next state assembly were elected on the platform of labour party.
However,Dr Mbah have weathered the storm in salvaging the ruling party in Enugu state from the eroding waves of the ‘Obidient Movement’ encapsulated in the Labour party,stirring a new political mechanism and direction in Nigeria.
In a brief chat with news men on election of Dr Mbah as next governor of Enugu state,the deputy Director General,Peter Mbah campaign organization,Deacon Okey Ogbodo,described the coming of Dr Peter Mbah as the best thing that will happen to Enugu state in the utmost bid to ginger the economy of the state into productivity. He expressed optimism that the Pinnacle Oil and Gas ltd,Chief executive will bring his experience to bear in stirring industrial revolution in Enugu state.
His words,”I have told our people at several ocassions that the coming of Dr Peter Mbah to govern Enugu state at this point in time of the nation’s ecpnomic cfises is the best thing to happen to Enugu state. He is well packaged,exposed,experienced with lots of managerial skills and contacts to conquer our economic upheavals. His manifesto presented to the public speaks volumes”.
Speaking on the mystery and circumstances that enabled Dr Mbah to survive the sentiments embedded in the Obidient Movement,Deacon Ogbodo said the vigorous campaigns through which Dr Mbah reached out to all nooks and cranny of the state,all sectors of our economy managers, outlaying his good programmes that will project Enugu state into economic viability as the secret. He said that one significant factor that can be x-rayed from thr results of the keenly contested governorship election remains the fact that Dr Mbah is accepted in every part of the state.
Deacon Ogbodo stated,”I witnessed vigorous campaigns where Dr Peter Mbah first handedly mixed up with the citizens,including the grass roots in our rural areas through town hall meetings and he articulatef their peculiar problems into models. Sentimrnts apart,No other candidate measured up to Dr Mbah in that unique campaign initiative.
“Our people saw him,touched him,believed in him and voted for him. No force would have stopped him because he is an indication of the change or new order our Youths are asking for” ,Deacon Ogbodo stated.
