FCT loses four traditional rulers in 8 months

Barley  a month after the death of Etsu of Yaba Chiefdom, late Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are mourning the passing of yet another traditional ruler, the Sa’akaruyi of Karu chiefdom, Emmanuel Kyauta Yepwi.

The Sa’akaruyi of Karu chiefdom in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Chief Emmanuel Kyauta Yepwi, died at 76.

One of the  relatives of the late monarch, Habaku Samson, who confirmed the death to the Journalists, said the monarch died on Saturday morning after a brief illness at a private hospital in Kano state.

He said the late Sa’akaruyi was admitted at the Kano hospital before he passed on, adding that his remains would be brought to Abuja.

“Around 12pm today (Saturday), a call came from Kano that Sa’akaruyi of Karu had passed on at the hospital. His body is being conveyed through the air to Abuja,” he said.

Samuel Danjuma, the special assistant to Senator Philip Aduda, who is also a first cousins to the late chief, also confirmed the monarch’s death.

Chief Yepwi will be the fourth graded traditional ruler to have died on the throne in the past eight months.

Recall that the Etsu of Yaba Chiefdom in Abaji Area Council, late Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, died on March 9, 2023, after he  reportedly slumped inside his palace.

Prior to his death, chief of Pai Chiefdom in Kwali area council, late Alhaji Abdullahi Bala, died on July, 3, 2022 after a brief illness. With the Etsu of Kwali Chiefdom, late Alhaji Shaban Audu Nizazo who died on December, 29, 2022, at a private hospital in Abuja, where he reportedly went for medical checkup.
