Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje guaranteed the freedom of over 4, 013 inmates in different Correctional Centres across the state in eight years of his stewardship as the Executive Governor of the state.

Ganduje spoke through his Deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.

According to him, “my government has also, within the eight years settled fines and compensations for the inmates to the sum of N4, 949, 000.”

Ganduje disclosed this while pardoning 43 inmates who committed various offences, as part of gestures to celebrate this year’s Eid El Fitr.

He spoke at the Goron Dutse Correctional Facility.

According to him, “freedom is everything to human life,” and called on the pardoned inmates to exhibit good character wherever they find themselves in the society.

In his remarks, the Controller of Correctional Centre in the State, Suleiman Muhammad Inuwa, said that the gesture offered by the Kano State Government has greatly assisted in decongesting the Correctional Facilities in the state.

He appealed to other states to emulate the gesture and also urged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the Nigerian Correctional Service by being law abiding citizens through exhibition of good behaviour.

The Chairman of the Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Mr. Abdullahi Garba Rano commended Ganduje for exercising the power conferred on him by the constitution to release the inmates on the recommendation of the Correctional Service management and the Council.
