The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesome Wike has assumed office with a pledge to go tough on illegalities to sanitise the territory for the good of all.
He made the promise during a maiden press briefing on Monday, shortly after taken oath of office as the 17th minister.
According to him, all sectors in the Federal Capital Territory must work, and there won’t be room for complain.
Wike said sanitation, demolition of illegal structures, tackling of insecurity, closing of unapproved motor parks and building of infrastructure will be key areas of his interest.
The minister noted that it will be wrong for the Federal Capital Territory to be taken over by illegal activities that breach the peace and pave way for insecurity.
“It is not going to be business as usual in FCT, so many people have complained that the territory has lost focus, some say this is not the FCT they know.
“It is not the FCT we thought will compete with the cities of the world, this is the time that we must show that the FCT can compete with other cities of the world.
“Security in FCT has gone down, the city supposed to be one of the safest places. Issue of security must be tackled first, we will provide the necessary logistics for the security agencies to work.
“I don’t want any excuses for failure, when we provide the necessary things to work, what we want is results, if we don’t safeguard FCT we are gone. Look at people stealing manholes and so on.
“The security agencies should identify the black spots in city so that we will flush out the criminals”
Wike also called on motorcycle operators to steer clear of the city, saying they won’t be allowed to operate as usual.
He also said the issue of markets springing up every where in the territory will not be tolerated.
On building, the minister explained that undeveloped plots will not be allowed in the city.
According to him, people would not be allowed to distort the Abuja master plan.
Wike assured the residents of FCT, natives and other stakeholders of his administration’s commitment to working with them to deliver in line with president Bola Tinubu’s mandate.
